The Group

Swapna Sandhani was formed in 1992 in Kolkata. With the sole view of enriching the ‘art of theatre’, the group has, so far, 22 full-length plays and 10 short plays, and has been honored by several government and non-government organization. The major production of the group include Aankhi Pallab(1992), Jodubangsha(1993), Khoj(1994), Tiktiki(1995),Marjoniyo(1996), Prothom Partha (1997), Tara Teen Bon(1998), Mukhomukhi Boshibar(2000), Anami Angana(2001), Prachya(2002), Manush(2002), Dushman No. 1 (2003), Kolkata’r Electra (2004), Aajke Amar Chuti(2005), Samudrer Mouna(2005), Bhalo Rakhosher Golpo(2005), Malyaban(2006), Maydanab(2006), Banku Babur Bondhu(2006), Shuprabhat (2006), Daakghar (2007), Bidushak (2007), Hargoj (2008), Unishe June (2008), Dorjiparar Morjinara (2009), Bhoy (2009),Birpurush (2010), Choto Bokul Purer Jatri (2010), Macbeth (2012), Thana Theke Aschi (2013) Punoshcho(2014) korkotkrantir Desh(2015).

The group has also produced the street play – ‘Amader Meyebela’ under the scheme of UNESCO. The group also has bagged major awards and honours like the Asian Paints Shiromoni Awards (1995), The West Bengal Natya Akademi (1996), and Kalakar Awards (1998), for Tara Teen Bon as the Best Director. The group has also performed in the National Theatre Festival organized by NSD (Nation School Of Drama) 7 times. With plays like – Prachya (2003), Dushman No. 1 (2004), Shomudrer Mouna and Banku Babur Bondhu (2007), Bidushak (2009), Dorjiparar Morjinara (2010), Macbeth (2013), Thana Theke Aschi (2014). National Theatre Festival Organised by Nandikar twice, Once in Rang Shankara Theatre Festival (2006), Ninasam Theatre Festival once in 2008.

Our Director - Koushik Sen

Born in the year 1968 in Calcutta, acting came naturally to Koushik through his illustrious parents, Late Shyamal Sen and Chitra Sen. It was only a matter of time before Koushik took up acting as a full-fledged profession. However, theatre remains Koushik’s first love and today he is one of the most important actor-directors of the Bengali stage apart from being a popular television and film actor. Koushik has received numerous awards and has in his illustrious career worked with stalwarts like Mrinal Sen, Tapan Sinha, Aparna Sen and Anjan Dutta. Koushik started his own theatre group Swapnasandhani in the year 1992 and has produced plays of the highest quality and is regarded as one of the trendsetters of the Bengali stage.

Participated 5 times at Bharat Rang Mahatsov (Organized by Nation School of Drama).


Best Actor: 1995 and 2002, Paschim Banga Natya Akademi for his performances in the plays Tiktiki and Prachya respectively

Best Supporting Actor: 2002, BFJA for his performance in Mrinal Sen’s Amar Bhuban
